THIS ALMOST-SUMMERTIME IS OFF TO A SWEET START… JUNE IS UPON US, AND THIS IS WHERE YOU’LL FIND THIS HISTORY BUFF / ACTIVIST / POET / PERFORMER SO FAR THIS MONTH:
This first weekend, Sunday’s Forgotten NY walking tour in Gravesend, Brooklyn, had over 30 attendees and we visited sites dating back to the 1700s, ending up for delicious pizza squares and gelato at L&B Spumoni Gardens, sitting outside on the sunny terrace.
If you missed it, make sure to catch another of Kevin’s tours – in collaboration with Greater Astoria Historical Society (where yours truly is currently President) – this Summer: https://forgotten-ny.com/forgotten-tours/fny-2019-tour-schedule/
Also on Sunday was Queens Pride Parade & Festival: http://www.queenspride.org/
If you missed it, you still have the chance to see the Grand Marshal of the day, and our pal, Drag Queen Candy Samples (http://www.samplemycandy.com./Sample_My_Candy/Welcome.html), do her thing monthly at Albatross Bar in Astoria! Catch her there Saturday nights June 8, July 13, August 17th… – she’s a delight, and a tireless AIDS activist: https://www.albatrossastoria.com/events
MONDAY, JUNE 3 / 6-7PM:
4 poets, including Queens Poet Laureate, Maria Lisella, will read in “Bring Your Story: Poets Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month” at the Queens Library, Forest Hills Branch:
Queens Libraries all over the borough host open mic nights, as well, so I plan on checking some of them out this Summer to participate.
THURSDAY, JUNE 6 / 9-10:30PM:
Love to laugh? Need some more of it? Join 2 of the funniest gals around and pals of mine at their monthly comedy showcase at QED: A Place to Show & Tell in Astoria: https://qedastoria.com/products/laugh-it-up-astoria-55
PUBLIC SECRET: I’m studying to take the NYC Sightseeing Guide Test early this month, so will have further updates on upcoming activities ASAP. And also an announcement of when I passed… stay tuned!
